'Rust Fund' Battle! VS Corbeau (Remix) - Pokémon Legends: Z-A

hey everyone, i'm back with a new remix for the new year! this time, it's of corbeau's battle theme from pokemon legends za, with a bit of an edgy twist. given the parallels between the rust syndicate and the yakuza, i thought it would be fun to arrange corbeau's theme by taking notes from the music of the yakuza/like a dragon series!

i actually became a new fan of the series when the games finally started coming over to nintendo systems recently and did wonders for how i felt about the single city setup of lumiose in legends za. i never knew how much i'd come to like the games and characters like kiryu and majima but i definitely have now and i'm just as much a fan of the heart pumping music in the series. so seeing pokemon's take was definitely interesting, and corbeau is easily one of my favourite characters from legends za, with a golden heart and a killer battle theme to boot. so what better way to show my appreciation than with a remix?

it was such a fun challenge to tackle this arrangement. this particular track is loosely inspired by "funk goes on" in the tempo, instrumentation, and general style, but i mostly used it as a jumping off point more than anything (particularly in the bass pattern). i say this bc i think the places i end up taking the mix drift away from the reference a bit, which is a good thing bc i got to show off what i can do removed from it! i did add a bunch of electric guitar solos and disk scratches so it ends up veering into the feel of other music from sega games, maybe a little sonic and/or hideki naganuma influence, idk. funk goes on is too iconic to me to even think to emulate but i hope my inspiration from it comes through in a complimentary way. corbeau's theme itself is no slouch either. it's super high energy with an aggressive synthetic sound palette and intense chromaticism that made it quite fun to transcribe it for this arrangement.

thanks everyone for the ongoing support! it's nice to feel up to making things again and hopefully i can maintain the nice rhythm i have going right now. i feel like i should make something splatoon related soon but i don't quite know what yet so i make no guarantees hehe! i wish everyone the best for the new year and to please take care of yourselves where you can :3
