There are so many things to do in the Catlins and we have already been road tripping in the Catlins for two days! Today, we are first checking out the stunning Lake Wilkie in the Catlins!

Lake Wilkie is an easy 30 minute return walk to a small bog lake with mirror reflections in the water. It’s surrounded by beautiful forest so there are plenty of photo opportunities.

The Lake Wilkie Walk in the Catlins is a pleasant surprise as we wait for low tide to visit Catedral Caves just down the road from Lake Wilkie.

At low tide, we can access Cathedral Caves. We pay our road user charge to access the walkway that leads to Cathedral Caves (only NZ$5 each) and take a 30-minute downhill walk to Cathedral Caves through the forest.

Cathedral Caves in the Catlins is one of the world’s longest sea caves. It has two entrances and has been named because of its high ceilings and acoustics. Cathedral Caves in New Zealand is a natural attraction in the Catlins you can’t miss!
