I demonstrate how I strip a guitar neck with a poly finish for a refinish using only a heat gun and a putty knife. After the heat and putty knife, I did a little light sanding with some 400 and 600 grit sandpaper just to smooth it out and roll the edges a bit. Then I show how to remove the fret markers from the side with a drill bit and a pin vise and the front using a drill bit. I do admit that my fingers did get sore with the bit on the front dots so I gave in and used the drill. Using the drill is much faster but there is a MUCH larger opportunity for errors to occur so I recommend being very careful if you choose to use one.
