Amazing facts about the California Kingsnake! (Animal Breakdown)

Описание: The California kingsnake is one of the many species of kingsnake found throughout the United States and is arguably one of the most beautiful! These guys are found on the west coast of the U.S from southern Oregon, through most of California, and into a few of the other southwestern states before making its way across the border into Mexico.
Like other kingsnakes in the U.S, the name "kingsnake" comes from they're habit of making a meal out of other snakes! One of the reasons the California kingsnake is so amazing is because its immune to most types of pit viper venom. This allows it to add venomous rattlesnakes to the menu! If a rattlesnake sees one of these colorful predators there isn't much it can do but try and avoid its hungry gaze. If the rattlesnake is seen, the kingsnake will chase it down, bite it, then start to constrict the rattler until its dead and swallow its scaly meal down whole!
Another reason kingsnakes are so amazing is because they are some of the strongest constrictors pound for pound on the planet! This means they aren't as big as other constrictors like the Anaconda, but like Manny Pacquiao they pack a huge punch for they're size!
One of the most interesting things about these colorful snakes is that within the same clutch of eggs, all of the siblings can have different patterns and colors so you wouldn't even be able to tell by looking at them if they're related or not! Imagine looking completely different from your siblings and parents its unbelievable!
Between their immunity to rattlesnake venom, their crazy coloration, or their squeezing power, the California kingsnake is truly one of the most sensational little snakes we have here in the U.S!

This snake was graciously provided to me by the beautiful facility of Gator Country located in Beaumont Texas. Its a great place for the whole family if you ever find yourself in southeast Texas and want to see some amazing animals! I actually have a history with this snake, his name is Phillip and he was bred in captivity before being surrendered to Gator Country. When I first started handling him he would try and bite my fingers and constrict my hand thinking it was food! One time he actually swallowed almost half of my left ring finger! He probably did this because it looked like what his favorite food would be in the wild, another snake! I'm just glad he was behaving himself for the video but it was probably just because he was trying to look good for the camera!
