On the weekend of 9/13 and 9/14, me and my dad trekked down to the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad to attend Railfest 2025. That weekend, we rode behind and chased former Chesapeake and Ohio H6 2-6-6-2 #1309 between Ridgeley, WV, Cumberland, MD and Helmstetter's Curve.
Coupled on the rear of the train was former Norfolk Southern B32-8 #561, which was recently outshopped in the Western Maryland's "Circus" scheme. As we focused on the Helmstetter's Highball, we also took a look at the equipment displayed around Cumberland Station, including Clinchfield Railroad Caboose #1072, wearing a semiquincentennial livery, the newly-acquired Conemaugh and Black Lick SW7 #111 and newly-rebuilt CSX CM44AC #7288.
Taking the regular Frostburg Flyer was B32-8 #539, also of Norfolk Southern heritage. We had a fun time chasing the #1309 and meeting new people along the way.
