School districts can be a big part of a home purchase decision. Sometimes it can be challenging to figure out how the school district boundaries work, which schools are best for your kids, and what your alternative options are. I’ve compiled a short video discussing some of the resources I’ve found in Northeast Ohio and Summit County to help with these questions. I hope you find this helpful. If there’s anything I can do to help you with your home buying journey in the Northeast Ohio area, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Also, here are the links to the resources referenced in the video:
1. To find which school district is associated to a particular address in Ohio: https://thefinder.tax.ohio.gov/
2. To find which schools within the district you would go to, you can try going to the school district’s website. Typically under their transportation department, you can search for an address and find out which school building is associated with that house for the bus. For example:
• For Copley/Fairlawn school district: https://www.copley-fairlawn.org/Page/...
• For Revere school district, there is only one building per grade:
o Richfield Elementary K-2
o Bath Elementary 3-5
o Revere Middle School 6-8
o Revere High School 9-12
• For Medina School District, go to: https://ewa.edulogweb.com/MEDINAOHNT1.... This site will also tell you which private schools they will transport to.
• For Akron schools, go to: https://www.croppermap.com/akron/
3. To research school districts to see if they’d be a good fit for you, go to https://www.niche.com/ or https://www.greatschools.org/.
4. To find out more about open enrollment and which school districts allow it, go to: https://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Ohi....
• Some school districts are listed more than once. To verify the IRN number for a specific school district, go to: http://webapp2.ode.state.oh.us/data/i...
5. To learn more about EdChoice, go to: https://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Oth...
• You qualify based on particular status of a school building- must be identified as an “EdChoice” school. The EdChoice scholarship amount is currently $5,500 for grades K-8 and $7,500 for grades 9-12. EdChoice will pay either the scholarship amount or the private school's actual tuition amount, whichever is less.
