America's Coasts are seeing explosive development. Expanding coastal port complexes, more Americans moving to the waters' edge, increasing demand for wild seafood and other factors are being coupled with relative sea-rise, coastal erosion, flooding and natural disaster threats. Were the Hurricane Katrina and Sandy disasters a wake up call? As the "canary in the coal mine" for America's coast, this TEDx talk explores the Louisiana precedent for tens of millions living near our oceans, gulf and great lakes. Our decisions to balance economic, fiscal and environmental forces will affect our country for generations to come. Can hurricanes be just another rainy day?
