I have an old chain link fence with a gate and terminal post that are misaligned; the distance between the terminal post and gate was larger at the top than at the bottom. The problem resulted in not being able to securely latch the gate fork. I searched online to see whether I could find a gate fork with slightly longer ends but could not find one. Instead I found an easy and inexpensive way to modify my existing standard gate fork so that it was longer. I purchased a small section of 3/4 inch diameter copper tubing and used a hacksaw to cut two sections that were a little longer than the two ends of the fork. I tapped these two copper sections onto the fork and widened the fork ends a bit so that it now easily and securely latches onto the terminal post.
Not only was this a super easy way to fix the gate latch but it also was an inexpensive alternative to replacing hundreds of dollars in gate parts.
