한국 거대 언론기업의 치부를 추적한 다큐멘터리 영화 〈족벌-두 신문 이야기〉의 축약본 영어 버전을 무료로 공개합니다.

In 2020, the Korea Center for Investigative Journalism-Newstapa released a feature-length documentary film titled 'Media Mafia: A Tale of Two Newspapers. The documentary exposes a dark side of two of South Korea's oldest and biggest media conglomerates, Chosun Ilbo and Dong-a Ilbo.

The film details how the two media companies that began as newspapers glorified the Japanese imperialist war of aggression, served in favor of multiple generations of military dictatorships in South Korea during the second half of the 20th century, and are now holding the South Korean society in their grips as two powerful establishment institutions.

We produced a shortened 100-minute version of the documentary and are releasing it for free with subtitles on YouTube for English-speaking viewers.

We hope this film will help viewers outside of South Korea understand the context behind the current media environment in South Korea and the influence of big commercial media companies.

This film was produced by Newstapa Film and was directed by KCIJ-Newstapa Editor-in-Chief Yongjin Kim.

우리는 영어권 시청자들을 위해 이 영화를 100분짜리로 축약해서 영어 자막을 달아 유튜브에 무료로 공개합니다.

이 영화가 해외 시청자들에게 한국의 미디어 환경, 그리고 거대 상업언론의 폐해를 제대로 이해하는데 도움이 되기를 기대합니다. 이 영화는 한국의 비영리 독립언론인 뉴스타파의 영화제작부 ‘뉴스타파필름’이 제작했고, 뉴스타파 김용진 대표가 연출했습니다.
