About Julia Reed
Reed wrote her first article for the Washington Bureau of Newsweek magazine in 1980, covering the story of her former Madeira headmistress, Jean Harris' murder of partner Herman Tarnower. She continued with the magazine as a contributing editor and columnist. Reed was a columnist at Garden & Gun from 2011. She was also an editor and writer for Vogue magazine since 1988, where she wrote about politics and culture and profiled the Clintons and Bushes, also interviewing Oprah Winfrey for The Wall Street Journal. She was a contributor to The New York Times, Conde Nast Traveler, The Wall Street Journal, U.S. News & World Report, and Elle Décor, among other publications.

About Your Instructor Tessa Smith McGovern
Tessa has been an author/instructor for 26 years. She's taught since 2011 for The Writing Institute, Sarah Lawrence College, NY, and is the founder of Bloom Writers' Studio (online) which helps writers of all levels write and publish. She's co-founder of PitchFest at The Westport Library's StoryFest, the largest literary festival in Connecticut. PitchFest brings together top NYC literary agents to hear pitches from writers all over the world. She's also a talent scout for the Allen Literary Agency.
She's an award-winning writer who was first published back in 1996. Her linked short story collection, LONDON ROAD: LINKED STORIES, received a ‘Featured’ review from Kirkus, is an Amazon best-seller, and a gold medal winner in the 2012 eLit Awards.
Her non-fiction book, COCKTAILS FOR BOOK LOVERS (Sourcebooks), is also an Amazon best-seller and was the best-selling gift for Sourcebooks Inc.
Her credits and awards include a pastiche of Virginia Woolf's flash fiction published in Equinox, a UK poetry journal archived by the English Arts Council at the Southbank Centre, London. She’s currently writing a contemporary fantasy novel inspired by British mythology and is pursuing a low-residency MFA in Writing at the Vermont College of Fine Arts.
She's host of BookGirlTV on YouTube, an award-winning digital channel that offers writing inspiration and instruction and promotes books and reading. BGTV has 2 million+ minutes viewed on YouTube. Bloom Writers' Studio has 10k followers on Facebook.
She co-hosts the The Westport Library's popular podcast, 'Go Ahead, Write Something' that offers the latest, actionable information to help people write and publish.
Tessa writes flash fiction, memoir, short stories, and novels and one of her deepest joys is to help her students bloom as they write.
