Pine Cone Camp – A project that I have had on my drawing board and project plan for over 2 years. I first previewed it in a video in 2018. The real push to work on it happened over the last number of months. Once the resort closed for the season I put this as a top project priority. So Todd, Matt, Greg and I have been working on finishing out a 100ft Tiny Cabin we call Pine Cone Camp.
Back Story. When I was growing up I liked build forts in the woods. As an adult I thought I would try to do the same. Goal of this was to challenge us by Building Small vs building big. Getting all the systems to work with each other and to optimize all parts of the project. We plan to use this as a day camp or occasional over nights with the boys. We thought it would be an awesome addition to the Weekend Homestead.
We have 160 acres of land that has been my DIY project for the last couple years. We have put in miles of trails, and been working on a number of cool destinations on the property. This one is located about a ½ mile back from our main cabin in the middle of a really nice stand of pine. It is an easy hike to get to, but also can be accessed by UTV and ATV. There is no way to drive a vehicle like car or truck back there which made building a challenge. Cameron my son, when he was younger was the one that came up with the name Pine Cone Camp. One of my YouTube Fans put together the logo and sign we have out on the site. We have a fire pit, picnic table and outdoor seating out there along with the Tiny Cabin. We have power hookups for friends with a small camper or plenty of space to tent camp out there.
From start to finish working a couple days here and there, it took us over 90 days to make the finish push for all the rough ins, utilities and finish work. A lot of it was waiting for amazon to deliver our supplies and figuring out how to get supplies there. Lastly there were a ton of trips in and out of the woods to get “forgotten” screws, nails, and little supplies.
We had thought of doing a making of for this, but instead thought we would show the finished product to inspire others to build their own Tiny Cabins on their property.
Including the building we have about $7500 into the project start to finish. Building was $3200 delivered and we spent another $4300 finishing including the Solar parts of the project.. None of this was sponsored, All items were installed to manufacturer's spec and to code. Make sure you check your local codes to find out more or before you start your project.
We do not plan to live at this camp, more to spend the day as a family out there. A place to hang out and enjoy a campfire, make dinner, or hike for the afternoon. Winter time movies and games are always a bonus.
If you have any questions regarding this project, or want to discuss it at any point, drop us a comment or MSG / Email and we can be of help.
Thanks for watching and reading our notes, Have a great day!
