Since I am going through the whole BMW R60/5, I need to clean up the rear shocks and make sure everything is up to working standards for a safe ride. Once that's all in order I can give them a fresh coat of paint.
In this video, I will share with you how to take apart rear motorcycle shocks with very few tools. These happen to be from my BMW project, but most classic rear shocks have the same setup! The damper must be removed from the top retainer. With a little bit of heat, you can easily remove these two parts without damaging anything during the process.
After everything was apart I focused on the silent blocks (rubber bushings) within the shaft eyelet and top retainer. For this, I used two sockets on either side and this will act just like a press within the vice.
If this video was helpful in any way, I'd appreciate it if you hit that like button and if you want to be one of the first to see the assembly video, be sure to subscribe!
