STORYLINE:

Iraqi Shia Muslims gathered near their largest Baghdad mosque on Friday to commemorate the burial of the seventh Imam, al-Musa.

The mosque, in the city's Khadmiya district is dedicated to the Imam.

Worshippers symbolically flagellated themselves with metal whips as they approached the shrine, in mourning for the death of the Imam.

US soldiers looked on from their tanks as the procession made its way to the mosque from the Adhamiyah district.
