How to Freehand Crochet on Pebbles 🌼 Slightly chaotic TUTORIAL - In this tutorial for confident beginner/intermediate crocheters I take you through my process for 'make-it-up-as-I-go' crochet to cover a pebble and create a pretty ornament/gift. It's a lot easier than it looks - you just need to know how to chain, sc, dc, tr and join with a sl st.

This tutorial uses US terminology, here's a conversion to help with UK terminology for this video:
slip stitch (US) = slip stitch (UK)
single crochet (US) = double crochet (UK)
half double crochet (US) = half treble (UK)
double crochet (US) = treble (UK)
treble (US) = double treble (UK)

:: PATTERNS ::
Yellow pebble pattern (roughly!):
Pebble measures about 6.5cm across. I used Pearl Cotton 8 and a 1.5mm hook.
Rnd 1: Ch10, join with sl st
Rnd 2: Work 21 sc into ring
Rnd 3: ch4 (counts as dc + 1ch), [sk1, (1dc, ch1, 1dc) in next st, sk1, 1dc in next]. Repeat around, end with (1dc, ch1, 1dc), sk1, ch1, sl st in top of starting ch3.
Rnd 4: Ch 6 (counts as dc + 3ch), [1dc in ch1 sp between 2 dcs, ch3, 1dc in next dc, ch3]. Repeat around and join with sl st to starting ch3
Rnd 5: Petals - In each ch3 sp work (1sc, 1hdc, 1dc, 1tr, 1dc, 1hdc, 1sc). Join with sl st to starting sc
Rnd 6: Ch6 (counts as dc + 3ch), [dc into middle tr of next petal, ch3) Repeat to end and sl st in starting ch3.
Rnd 7: Ch3 (counts as dc), 3 dc in every ch3 sp, 1 dc in every dc around. Join with sl st into starting ch3. Fasten off leaving a long tail.
Finishing: Position on pebble, weave the tail in and out through the tops of all dcs in rnd 7, pull tightly to secure onto the pebble, tie securely.

Purple pebble pattern:
Pebble measures about 5.5cm across.
Rnd 1: Ch10, join with sl st
Rnd 2: Ch1, work 20 scs into the ring
Rnd 3: Ch 5 (counts as dc + 2ch), [sk 1, 1 dc into next st, ch2] Repeat around, skip last stitch or 2 and join with sl st into 3rd chain.
Rnd 4: Petals - [sl st into ch2 sp, ch1, sc, hdc, dc, tr, dc, hdc, sc, into same ch 2 sp, sl st into next ch2 sp, ch1, 2scs] repeat around, finishing with 2scs in last ch2 sp.
Rnd 5: Sl st into sc, hdc, dc, and tr. Ch7 (counts as sc +6ch), [sl st into first sc in dip between petals, ch6, sc into tr in centre of petal, ch6] repeat around, join with sl st into first ch of starting ch7.
Rnd 6: ch1, [5scs into ch6 sp, fpsc around the point where the two sets of chs meet in the dip (see video!), 5scs into ch6 sp, sl st into sc], repeat around, finish with sl st in first ch1.
Rnd 7: Ch4 (counts as dc +1ch), [sk1, dc, ch1], repeat around, join with sl st to top of starting ch3.
Rnd 8: Ch5 (counts as tr + 1ch), [sk1, 1tr in next st, ch1] repeat around, join with st st into 4th ch of starting ch5. Fasten off leaving a long tail. Finish as above for yellow pebble.
