Jabalpur BREAKING LIVE: 9 Tourists Killed As Cruise Boat Sinks In Narmada River, Rescue Ops Underway

At least six people, including three women, were killed on Thursday evening after a cruise both carrying around 30 people on board sank in Narmada River's Bargi dam area of Madhya Pradesh, Jabalpur. Rescue operations are presently underway.

According to reports, the mishap took place due to overloading. An eyewitness named Tuhin told ANI, “We were sitting here after having a meal. It was windy. The boat was shaking. People told the boat operator to pull the boat to our side and anchor it here. But he paid no heed. He took the boat in the middle of the water once again and it capsized.”

Jabalpur Collector Raghvendra Singh said that as of now, 15 people have been rescued and SDRF teams are trying to search for 12 more people. Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav said that in this hour of crisis, the state government stands in full solidarity with the affected families with complete sensitivity, adding that every possible assistance will being ensured.

“The operation by the local administration and rescue forces continues unabated in Jabalpur regarding the tragic cruise accident at the Bargi Dam caused by a severe storm. Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh, Tourism Minister Dhruvendra Singh Lodhi, the Divisional In-Charge ACS, ADG, and local public representatives have been directed to reach the site immediately," the Chief Minister further said.
