Taiwan's proud table tennis player Chiang Peng-lung was born on July 24, 1976 in Makung City, Penghu County, Taiwan. With his unique style of playing with a Japanese-style penholder grip, he has been a leader in Taiwanese table tennis since the late 1990s and 2000s, competing with the world's top players.
His style of play is “front line drive-oriented”. His sharp forehand drives from his tall frame and his high-speed backhand Jab, known as the “Dragon Jab,” have won the hearts of table tennis fans around the world. His calm game management and tactical sense were also highly regarded, and he was strong enough to stay one step ahead of even the best opponents.
His achievements are reflected in four bronze medals at the World Table Tennis Championships (1997, 2001, and 2007) and two titles in men's singles and doubles at the 2000 Asian Championships. He also competed in three Olympic Games (Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, and Beijing 2008) and continued to represent Taiwan on the world stage as an athlete.
The equipment he used was also iconic to his fans, including Butterfly's Cypress-S, a signature model named after him (now discontinued), and Blythe Speed rubbers. These pieces of equipment are still highly sought after among collectors.
After a spectacular career as a player, 蔣penglong has remained an iconic figure in Taiwanese table tennis, involved in the training and promotion of younger players. His playing style and achievements are still admired by many table tennis fans, and he is one of the legends to be passed down from generation to generation.
