Ruger's new Dr. Cook's bitless bridle just arrived, I can't wait to use it at my next event when I put on the patriotic tack.
I was appointed as the 1st Bitless Bridle instructor by Dr. Robert Cook in 2005 ( I state this to give validity to my video clip)
I have fitted and ridden well over 300 horses in this bridle, I recommend starting lower down the nose for more leverage/control, but In this video I have the nose band set around 2" above the corner of Ruger's mouth. I have room to slip one flat finger in the nose band.
When I keep the bridle on and tie him to my trailer with his hay bag for a snack when I an not riding him, I place a halter that I make extra large to go over the bitless, I also loosen the nose band on the bitless or he can not chew his hay well.
I take the reins off too. I do this as I have about 20 minutes in between runs at team penning, if I tie him for longer periods, I remove the bitless bridle.
God Bless the USA!
To see me fit another horse with the nose band adjusted a little lower, look at this link
