“Now the president announced that everybody is now going to wear fugu and we will feel proud and show (them) more. And (it's for) our weavers and sewers to also feel proud. So yes, Fugu has now come to stay.”

“If you take a top that we make here, it's not as heavy as the fugu. A standard fugu takes about four to five yards to make. A standard top here takes about two yards or two and a half yards, depending on the size. So now it's more wearable. It's seen as everyday fashion. You can wear it to the office, you can wear to meet up with your friends and it doesn't have to be that specific important big function.”

The fugu is a type of smock that comes in a variety of colours and patterns.
