इतने साल से कि फ़ारस की खाड़ी में ही ये सारे देश हैं जिनकी ज़मीन से तेल निकलता है और उनको अपना तेल दुनिया में सप्लाई करने के लिए फ़ारस की खाड़ी से ही अपने जहाज़ बाहर ले जाने पड़ते हैं यानी स्ट्रेट ऑफ़ हॉर्मूज़ को पार करना पड़ता है। और हॉर्मूज़ का ये गलियारा इतना संकरा है कि दूसरी तरफ़ बैठा ईरान अगर चाहे तो इसको रोक सकता है। तो दुनिया भर का इतना तामझाम खड़ा करने वाले देशों ने कोई दूसरा रास्ता बनाने की क्यों नहीं सोची? ताकि इस रास्ते से जाना ही ना पड़े। इतना पैसा है इन सब देशों के पास। UAE के पास, सऊदी अरब के पास, कुवैत है, बहरीन है, क़तर है, ये सब तेल से बहुत पैसा कमा चुके हैं उतने सालों में। इन्होंने यूरोप अमेरिका जैसी बड़ी-बड़ी बिल्डिंगों वाले ऐसे चपकदार शहर बना दिये तो इन्होंने कोई ऑल्टरनेटिव रास्ता बनाने की क्यों नहीं सोची? और अमेरिका ने क्यों नहीं सोची? अपने इतने महंगे हथियारों वाले सेना के अड्डे बना दिये, तेल का रास्ता बनाने की नहीं सोची स्ट्रेट ऑफ़ हॉर्मूज़ बायपास करने के लिए? ईरान ब्लॉक कर के बैठा है तो दुनिया की 20% तेल की सप्लाई ही बंद हो गई? इनको पता नहीं था कि अगर युद्ध हो गया तो ईरान हॉर्मूज़ का गलियारा रोक कर इनका और दुनिया की अर्थव्यवस्था का टेंटुआ दबा सकता है? तो इसका जवाब है कि इन्होंने सोचा तो था और प्लैनिंग भी की थी और एक दूसरा रास्ता बनाया भी था। और दूसरा रास्ता है भी। वो रास्ता है पाइपलाइनों का। दो पाइपलाइनें बनी हुई हैं। ये पाइपलाइनें तेल को ख़तरे वाले हॉर्मूज़ गलियारे को समुद्री रास्ते से बचाकर ज़मीन से ले जाती हैं। ये तो अब सब लोग जान ही गए हैं कि हॉर्मूज़ का समुद्री गलियारा फ़ारस की खाड़ी और ओमान की खाड़ी के बीच एक संकरा जलमार्ग है, जहां से दुनिया का करीब 20% तेल गुज़रता है। और ईरान ने युद्ध में इसे बंद कर दिया है, उसने ऐलान कर रखा है कि वहां से कोई भी जहाज़ गुजरेगा तो वो हमला कर देगा और अब तो ख़बरे हैं कि उसने समुद्र में माइन बिछा दी हैं। इसलिए जहाज़ों का वहां से आना-जाना लगभग बंद हो गया है। इसलिए दुनिया का ध्यान जा रहा है दो पाइपलाइनों पर। एक पाइपलाइन है सऊदी अरब की ईस्ट-वेस्ट पाइपलाइन।


For so many years, all these nations situated within the Persian Gulf—whose lands yield oil—have been compelled to transport their vessels out through the Gulf itself to supply their oil to the world; that is to say, they must traverse the Strait of Hormuz. And this corridor of Hormuz is so narrow that Iran, situated on the opposite shore, could effectively block it if it so desired. So, why did these nations—which have erected such massive infrastructure and grandeur across the globe—never consider constructing an alternative route? A route that would obviate the need to use this specific passage altogether? These nations possess immense wealth—the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar; over the years, they have amassed vast fortunes from their oil reserves. Having constructed glittering metropolises featuring towering skyscrapers reminiscent of those in Europe and America, why did they fail to conceive of building an alternative transport route? And why did the United States not consider it either? Having established military bases bristling with expensive weaponry, why did it not contemplate creating an oil transport route to bypass the Strait of Hormuz? Is the world's oil supply—specifically the 20% that passes through this region—to be entirely cut off simply because Iran chooses to block the strait? Were they unaware that, in the event of a conflict, Iran could choke off both their economies and the global economy by blocking the Hormuz corridor? The answer is that they did consider it; they did formulate plans, and they did actually construct an alternative route. And indeed, such an alternative route exists. That route consists of pipelines. Two such pipelines have already been constructed. These pipelines transport oil overland, thereby bypassing the perilous maritime corridor of Hormuz.
