The Bolton Atlantic Challenge team crossed the finishing line in 59 days 18 hours 4 minutes and 9 seconds, making them eighth overall and third in fours. Mark Brocklehurst of Sharples Group, Nick Griffiths of Bupa, Finn Christo of Appliances Online and Matt Nuttall of Matt Nuttall Photography, made the team of four from Bolton. However the team had a fifth team mate, in memory, close friend Vincent Kelly, who was planning to row The Atlantic with the team but was tragically killed in a plane crash in Nepal in September 2012.
The team have experienced tough conditions including; 40ft waves, avoiding large sea life, painful salt sores and blisters, deprivation of sleep, homesickness, a bucket as a toilet facility, a diet of powdered cold sachets and even capsizing!
Along with the gruelling challenge they have also set themselves a target to raise £250,000 for Bolton Lads and Girls Club Junior Mentoring Programme. There is currently a waiting list of nearly 200 young people across Bolton which with the support and guidance of a mentor could quite literally have a life changing effect. - See more at: http://www.boltonladsandgirlsclub.co....
