A wave of intense outrage has spread across the state’s political and legal circles following allegations that a lawyer was subjected to abusive language and death threats in Sabroom, South Tripura. The accused is Sabroom Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Abhijit Singh Yadav (IAS). In protest against the incident, the Sabroom Bar Association has announced an indefinite boycott of all SDM court proceedings and document-related work starting Monday (January 12). According to the complaint, the incident occurred on January 7 during the hearing of a case at a temporary courtroom in the Nagar Panchayat building. Senior advocate Ratan Nath stated that in his 22-year legal career, he has never faced such an experience. Bar Association Secretary Advocate Apan Datta has demanded a neutral investigation and exemplary punishment for the accused. Meanwhile, an FIR has already been registered against the accused magistrate.
