I wanted to set up a guitar with flatwounds that could work well for a jazz gig but also do the job for a rock gig. I replaced the flat wound G string with an unwound .019 and it's perfect. This works great with the 11-50 gauges because it still feels like a balanced set of flatwounds but the feel is still light enough to bend strings for blues or rock playing.
