The Quinta da Boa Vista Zoo
On March 18, 1945, Rio de Janeiro won a new zoo, inaugurated by the then president Getúlio Vargas, in the park of the historic Quinta da Boa Vista, residence of the Portuguese Royal Family and the Imperial Brazilian Family, next to the National Museum of Brazil .

Zoological Foundation of the City of Rio de Janeiro
Alternating periods of prosperity and hardship, the Jardim Zoológico was transformed, in 1985, into the Jardim Zoológico Foundation of the City of Rio de Janeiro, linked to the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro. The change provided greater administrative agility, allowing an extensive modernization process that transformed the institution into a respected research and environmental education center, recognized throughout the country and abroad.

On January 8, 2005, the Jardim Zoológico Foundation of the City of Rio de Janeiro, with the support of VITAE - Support for Culture, Education and Social Promotion, inaugurated the Museum of Fauna, a project aimed at environmental education that allows to know ecosystems Brazilians.
