Nucor Steel Arkansas is located in one of the top steel-producing regions in America and manufactures steel sheets and coils for multiple industries. The operation historically used a straddle crane to load large steel coils into railcars which sometimes required the operator to be positioned beneath a suspended load while maneuvering it. With the goal of improving safety and efficiency of coil handling operations, Nucor turned to Hyster to develop a solution utilizing a Hyster ReachStacker and a specialized coil handling attachment to enable side-loading. As a result operators can load up to 10 times as many cars per day and feel safer.
