What is a 409A valuation?
The official definition: It’s an independent appraisal of the fair market value (FMV) of a private company’s common stock on the date of issuance.
To determine your valuation, appraisers estimate what a company’s shares would sell for in an ideal market where buyers and sellers possess the same information about a company and its finances.
This valuation is used to set the strike price for stock options issued to employees.
