A shocking food crisis has surfaced from Odisha. In Koksara block of Kalahandi, thousands of children attending Anganwadi centres are reportedly deprived of proper midday meals for the last three months.

Under the ICDS programme, around 168 Anganwadi centres with more than 5,052 children are affected. As per rules, nearly 270 quintals of rice should have been supplied in advance. However, allegations suggest that the contractor agency has stopped rice supply since October.

Currently, children are being given only laddus and boiled eggs, but without rice, the meal remains incomplete. Many parents are reluctant to send their children as food shortage continues.

Anganwadi workers say they are helpless as there is no rice to cook. Meanwhile, the CDPO claims delayed supply from higher authorities.

The big question remains — how can a contractor agency allegedly hold children’s nutrition hostage if government monitoring is in place?

Local residents are demanding immediate administrative action and restoration of food supply to protect children's health and education.
