The Eiffel Tower is a wrought-iron lattice tower on the Champ de Mars in Paris, France. It bears the name of Gustave Eiffel, an engineer whose business planned and constructed the tower.
As the focal point of the 1889 World's Fair, it was built from 1887 to 1889 and locally known as "La dame de fer" (French for "Iron Lady"). Its design was first criticised by some of France's top artists and philosophers, but it has since evolved into one of the most recognisable buildings in the world and a global cultural emblem for France
