The state of Maharashtra is witnessing unprecedented hailstorm. The untimely rain has caused a lot of damage to farmers of Marathwada, Vidharbha and Western region. Almost 8 lakh hectares of crop has been damaged. Standing crops like wheat, jowar, pulses, sunflower suffered extensive damage due to hailstorm for over eight days in many parts of the state. Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said a team of experts from the Centre would arrive soon in the state to assess the crop damage caused by hailstorms in various parts.
