Set in the heart of Kolkata, this stately manor hotel will enfold you in the time of the Great Bengal Renaissance. The rich, experiential slice of Kolkata’s colonial history is faithfully recreated across Raajkutir’s 48 rooms and 13.5 acres of lush green expanse.

Raajkutir is designed on the lines of a traditional Bengali ‘Raajbari’ - a style of architecture that defined the sprawling homes of wealthy landowners. The hotel is built around a vast traditional Uthon (courtyard). The entrance is flanked by sculptures of lions depicting royalty. A majestic rural Botthhtola with sacred threads hanging from an old Banyan tree and a Durga idol, harks back to a typical welcome setting of the nineteenth century. Vintage artefacts like a huge brass pradip and a life-size horse carriage are strewn around the property like souvenirs of a forgotten time. Ever so gently, the aura of the opulent mansion and grounds will draw you into the grandeur of times past.

The magnificent cultural legacy of the Bengal Renaissance is visible in every detail of Raajkutir. You will find touches of the Era in the chequered marble flooring and Kota stone tiling. You will see it in the works from the Bengal School of Arts, which adorn the hotel walls. You will hear it in the soulful melodies of the folk Baoul singers. And finally, you will taste Era-authentic flavours and recipes in the hotel’s award-winning restaurants.

East India Room offers a stylized interpretation of the “Colonial Companion” Indian dining experience which developed during the British Raj in India. Loafer’s Café specializes in a Victorian High Tea service and various seasonal, European-inspired recipes. Swig Bar has an English colonial look. Its stunning décor is matched by a covetous liquor library which references classic British clubs with their vintage cocktails on the one hand, and the extravagant tastes of British clubs with their vintage cocktails.
