GILBERT, Ariz., Oct. 21 (KNN) – According to Mesa Police Lieutenant Kurt Scanio, officers with the Gilbert Police Department attempted to pull over a black Chevy Tahoe early Monday morning.
The reason for the traffic stop has yet to be confirmed.
The vehicle failed to yield to officers and sped away at a high rate of speed.
Units from the Mesa Police Department, including their helicopter, responded to the area to assist Gilbert Police.
As the helicopter arrived overhead, ground units fell back to a safe distance to prevent encouraging the suspect to drive recklessly as the helicopter tracked the suspect.
The suspect was seen driving in excess of 100 miles per hour on city streets with no police vehicles behind him.
At one point, the suspect struck an unknown object, causing the rear bumper of the Tahoe to be damaged.
Eventually, the vehicle came to a stop in the 3900 block of East Austin Drive, where the single occupant was taken into custody.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 13-year-old boy.
Officers are working to determine who the vehicle belongs to and if it was potentially stolen.
