The journey to #CaptureTheCosmos is already well underway. We began building the LSST Camera in 2017, and it was completed at SLAC #OTD last year! Soon it will take unprecedented 3,200-megapixel images of the night sky, and over the next 10 years will map the positions and measure the brightness of a vast number of night-sky objects from which researchers can infer a wealth of information. Follow what comes next for the world’s largest digital camera, now fully installed at the NSF-DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory.

NSF–DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory is a joint initiative of the U.S. National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. Its primary mission is to carry out the Legacy Survey of Space and Time, providing an unprecedented data set for scientific research supported by both agencies. Rubin is operated jointly by NSF NOIRLab and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory.

Once operational in 2025, Rubin will be jointly operated by NSF NOIRLab, and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory.
