■INTRODUCTION
The novel "Punishing the Hero: Penal Hero 9004th Unit Prison Records" by Rocket Shokai,
is a dark fantasy depicting the battle between the criminals punished with the penalty of "Hero"――the penal heroes and the Demon King's army.
Serialization started on the novel posting site "Kakuyomu" in October 2020,
and the first volume of the book (illustrations by Mephisto) was published by KADOKAWA (Dengeki no Shin Bungei) in September 2021.

This work won the Kakuyomu User Award [User Recommendation Category] 1st place in "Kakuyomu Awards 2020",
2nd place in the [Overall Category] of "Next Light Novel Award 2021",
3rd place in the [Single Volume/Novels Category] of "This Light Novel is Amazing! 2023" (published by Takarajimasha)
and 5th place in the [Overall New Works Category] (※1st place as a new single volume work) one after another.
The long-awaited TV anime adaptation has been decided.
