In this video, I rough turn a large bowl out of some Poplar I found on the side of the road. I started with a 1/2 log that was about 12 inches square (30 cm), and turned it to a roughly 11 inch by 4 inch bowl (28 x 10 cm).
This wood was extremely wet. I could feel the spray from the piece as it was spinning on the lathe. I had prepped my bed-ways ahead of time to prevent any rust. It also kind of smelled funny. I think it was just a wet wood smell, not too terribly unpleasant, but odd.
When I finished it weighed about 5.5 lbs. (2.5 kg) and I put it in a bag full of shavings to dry for awhile. I'll check back in on it in a few months.
I have made a bunch of other turnings, but haven't found the time to sit down and edit a video. Eventually the weather will get less pleasant, and I will have more inside time than I desire to get some videos out.

Remember, shop safety is the most important aspect of wood turning. Actions I take in my shop may not model perfect safety practices. Ensure you read, understand and employ all the safety precautions of your tools/machines while working in your shop.
