Описание: Documents released to the ABC under freedom of information laws have revealed nine youths were hospitalised after self-harming at the Holtze Youth Detention Centre in the 12 months since it opened. Corrections officers also recorded two sexual assaults, 19 "physical injury" assaults, seven "major" disturbances, four escapes and one hunger strike since the facility opened in November 2024. The documents also reveal youths continued to vandalise the $130 million centre in the days after a riot which caused almost $200,000 in damage a week after it opened, including one boy who smashed a phone and used the broken pieces to "slice" his throat, causing blood to "gush" from his neck. But Northern Territory Corrections Minister Gerard Maley says the new centre is "certainly not Don Dale all over again" and offers wraparound health and education services to help break the cycle of offending.
