1- Russia launched one of the biggest and deadliest attacks on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv overnight. More than 600 drones and 90 missiles targeted residential buildings, shopping malls, and student hostels, causing massive destruction across the city. At least 2 people were killed and over 62 injured as authorities urged residents to stay inside shelters.


2- Kalbaisakhi Odisha is likely to witness intense Kalbaisakhi activity this afternoon as the weather department has issued alerts for all 30 districts. Thunderstorm, lightning, gusty wind and rain may occur in several parts of the state. Orange alert has been issued for 10 districts in north and south Odisha, where wind speed may reach 50 to 60 kmph. The remaining 20 districts have been placed under yellow alert. People are advised to stay indoors during lightning and avoid standing near trees, electric poles or open fields. The weather alert has raised concern across the state.

3- Electricity contract workers of Tata Power continue their protest in Bhubaneswar even after the Odisha government imposed ESMA. Thousands of linemen, call center staff, and collection employees have been on strike for the past seven days demanding an end to contractual employment and opposing layoffs. Protesters claim ESMA cannot be applied to them as they are contract workers. Concerns are now rising over possible disruption in power supply across Odisha.

4- The Odisha government is planning to increase EV charging stations across the state to promote electric vehicle usage and reduce fuel consumption. Following the Prime Minister’s appeal to save petrol and diesel amid the West Asia situation, the state government has announced several fuel-saving measures. From June 1, all newly purchased government vehicles and rented official vehicles must be electric. The government is also encouraging carpooling and virtual meetings to reduce fuel expenses.
