Facing a massive Pakistani armoured counter-attack, he fought with unmatched bravery, destroyed multiple enemy Patton tanks, and held the Indian position at a critical moment of the war.
Even after his tank was hit and set on fire, he refused to withdraw and continued fighting until his final breath. For his supreme sacrifice and battlefield leadership, he was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest wartime gallantry award.
