Daboya is the capital of the North Gonja district, a district in the Savannah Region of north Ghana. Daboya was an important salt trading settlement in the Kingdom of Dagbon. In the late 1600s, it was invaded and is now under Gonja control. Its glorious days of salt production are now in the past, especially as large scale salt mining industries.
We seek your kind support in revitalizing the traditional salt mining industry in Daboya. While salt mining continues in our historic town, large-scale industries like Electrochem in Ada have significantly impacted local production, leaving our community’s rich heritage at risk.
Daboya’s salt is not only a resource but a symbol of our cultural identity and an essential livelihood for many families. With your support, we can adopt modern techniques to sustain and improve salt production, ensuring its viability for generations to come.
We would be deeply grateful for any assistance you can provide, whether through funding, equipment, or expertise. Together, we can preserve this important part of our heritage while empowering the local economy.
