Описание: The SOS genes for DNA repair and cell division in bacteria are repressed by the binding of LexA repressor protein to the operator with SOS-box sequences under normal conditions. When they are challenged with sunlight UV, genotoxic chemicals etc., the LexA proteins are autocleaved with the help of RecA and single-stranded DNA, leading to the expression of the SOS genes to cope with DNA damage. The binding of LexA to the operator is carried out by the classical helix-turn-helix motif. This video is based on the recent refinement of the structure of the LexA-DNA complex (3JSO.pdb), in which the three alpha helices are colored pink-orange-blonde, beta strands are green-blue, and the gaps are for the disordered and flexible regions.
