Tony Coen plays two reels, 'The Mills are Grinding' and 'The Milliner’s Daughter', recorded at Finnerty's Mills, near Loughrea in Co. Galway.
Tony grew up in Drimnamuckla, close to Woodford in southeast Galway. His father, Mike, played the concertina and he is the youngest of a family of nine which includes two well known musical brothers, Jack Coen and Monsignor Charlie Coen.
An accomplished fiddle player, Tony was a member of the Bridge Céilí Band led by Eugene Nolan and they won the All Ireland title in Listowel in 1970.
Tony's album, 'Tony Coen - Traditional Irish Music on Fiddle and Whistle' was released in 2017. Retired from the Gardaí, Tony now lives in Lorrha, across the Shannon in Tipperary,
Also recorded at Finnerty’s Mills were Michael Fahy on concert flute, Dylan Crean on banjo and Ned Coleman, melodeon, with singers Tommy Ward and Ann Marie Crean.
Cois na hAbhna Archive would like to thank Maria and Sean Kennedy of Finnerty's Mills for their great welcome and hospitality.
