In this video we see some trackside action at Dandenong; a busy suburban station in Melbourne's southeast that serves as the junction of the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines. Filmed from the George Street bridge just outside the station, we see a variety of different trains towards the tail end of the morning peak.
We see numerous Metro Comeng and Siemens EMU's, including some returning to the stabling sidings after operating their morning services. We also see a couple of V/Line Vlocity DMU's on the Gippsland line, and the main reason for recording this video; the Dandenong Cement Train.
Operated by QUBE the cement train is a relatively new service that operates between the cement sidings in Dandenong South and Melbourne's Dynon rail yards. It started operating in September 2019 but only runs twice a week, currently every Tuesday's and Thursday's, so this was the first time I've caught the cement train on film.
On this particular occasion I was fairly lucky to see locomotive X31 lead the train, which is currently on lease to QUBE from the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre. X31 is a fairly popular locomotive among rail enthusiasts, especially with its Victorian Railways livery. In the video we see the train stop at the station and then depart as it heads towards Melbourne.
