A Day in AlUla explores and researches the subject of self-representation through the video form “vlogging” by the people of AlUla. During her residency, the artist worked with local and foreign visitors, allowing them to lead the filmmaking process. Each film documents a day in one person's life, using cameras and tracking devices to capture their daily routines and movements within the city. These narratives reflect the evolving landscape and examine the influence of self-promotion through vlogging on the fabric of documentary filmmaking and its interplay with tourism.
The project showcases the diverse perspectives of AlUla's inhabitants, highlighting their personal connections to the land and the nuanced effects of tourism on local perceptions. By exploring themes of authorship, the approach challenges us to consider who controls the narrative and how this power dynamic changes across different contexts.
