Join me on the epic journey from palm trees to powder days as I travel 616.8 miles from Phoenix, Arizona, to Powderhorn Resort. The quest for the coveted 1st chair on opening day began on Thanksgiving day (opening day eve). Determination and a love for the slopes drove me to be the first in line, braving changing temperatures and even moving my truck for the snowplow. As the sun rose, the line grew, and by 9 am, the adventure climaxed with four dedicated snowboarders, including Trailer Tom, claiming the honor of the 1st chair on 11-24-23. Powderhorn Resort welcomed us with sunglasses, cookies, and the thrill of a new season. This is the story of an unforgettable opening day!

The Palm trees to powder day 616.8 mile journey began in Phoenix Arizona and ended in victory as I sat upon the first chair on opening day at Powderhorn Resort.

It was 5am on Thanksgiving day (opening day eve) who I saw the social media posts from the official Powderhorn Facebook and instagram pages that opening day would be “Black Friday” the day after Thanksgiving.

I began my quest to go for first chair on opening day determined to to whatever it takes to get to the resort to claim my spot in line as early as possible.

The snow stopped falling about 4am,and the wind picked up. At 5:39 am I had to move my truck because the snowplow had to revoke the snow in the upper parking lot near the base lodge.

By 6am I was still the only guest waiting in line the 9am first chair of the 2023/2024 season for Powderhorn Resor!. The temperature dropped to 30 degrees during the pre dawn hours quite a drastic change coming from 71 degrees the day before in Phoenix where I was spending time with my mom and her pug dog Roxie and friends of the Thanksgiving holiday.


The flat top flyer lift is the 4 person lift was in operation for opening day and so I posted up at the base of the lift where I was soon joined in line by Cedric Smith, Cayton Carrell, and Jake Miller.


Powderhorn hooked us up with sunglasses and cookies as we waited for that coveted 1st chair on Pwderhorn’s opening day of the 2023-2024 season.


The honor of first chair on opening day at Powderhorn went to 4 snowboarders Trailer Tom, Cedric Smith, Cayton Carrell, and Jake Miller and took place on 11-24-23 .
