The Mercedes-Benz 140 series designates luxury class vehicles which debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1991 as the successor to the 126 series. It was built under the designation Mercedes-Benz S-Class between July 1991 and September 1998. The vehicle was offered as a sedan (W 140), extended sedan (V 140) and coupe (C 140). 406,717 sedans and 26,025 coupes were produced, of which more than 100,000 vehicles were sold in Germany.[ Since about 1996, there was a Pullman sedan from the manufacturer as a representative vehicle, see also section S 600 Pullman. A special edition was delivered for Pope John Paul II in 1997, an S 500 long Landaulet.
