Thomas Daniel Mottola (born July 14, 1948) is an American music executive, producer & author. Mottola is currently the Chairman of Mottola Media Group & previously was the Chairman & CEO of Sony Music, parent of the Columbia label, for nearly 15 years.

He was born in The Bronx. After dropping out of Hofstra University, he pursued a music career as a guitarist & singer with The Exotics, an R&B cover band.

He entered in the music in the mid-1960s as a recording artist for CBS Records, under the name T.D. Valentine. After his attempt to become a recording star himself failed, Mottola started working for publishing powerhouse Chappell Publishing & started his own management company.

In 1988, Mottola was hired by Sony Music to run its US operations. In 1990, he replaced Yetnikoff as Chairman CEO. He transformed Sony into one of the most successful global music companies, expanding its businesses into over 60 countries, while creating one of the strongest management teams in the music industry.

He is widely known for signing, developing, nurturing & blowing up the careers of Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Gloria Estefan, Destiny's Child, Jessica Simpson, Anastacia, Shakira, Dixie Chicks, Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, as well as for releasing digitally remastered cds of older recordings by Barbra Streisand, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Andy Williams, Pink Floyd.

He worked with Michael Jackson. Jackson later stated that his relationship with Mottola dissolved based on corruption in Mottola's working practices & once charged him with being a racist who exploited black talent.

Mottola was the head of Sony Music until 2003. He has been building a new entertainment company. He was instrumental in re-launching careers of such artists as Marc Anthony & Lindsay Lohan. Later signings included Cassie Ventura & Mika.

Mottola has been married 3 times. Lisa Clark, daughter of ABC Records head Sam Clark, in 1971. They divorced in 1990, after having 2 children.

On 1993, he married Mariah Carey. They announced their separation on May 30, 1997 & later divorced on March 5, 1998. He married Thalía, on 2000 & they have 2 children.

Celine Dion (born 30 March 1968) is a Canadian singer. She is noted for her powerful & technically skilled vocals. Dion is the best-selling Canadian artist & the best-selling French artist of all time.Her music has incorporated genres such as pop, rock, R&B, gospel & classical music.

Born into a large family (she is the youngest of 14 children) from Quebec, she emerged as a teen star in her country during the 1980s. She gained international recognition by winning the 1982 Yamaha World Popular Song Festival & the 1988 Eurovision, where she represented Switzerland. After learning English, in 1990, Dion released her debut English album, Unison.

During the 1990s, she achieved worldwide fame after releasing several best-selling albums in history, such as Falling into You & Let's Talk About Love, with over 30 million sales each. Dion is also one of the best-selling artists of all time, with sales of more than 200 million. Dion is regarded as one of pop music's most successful vocalists. She won 5 Grammys. Billboard named her the Queen of Adult Contemporary for having the most no1 songs for a female artist. Dion is the 2nd best-selling female artist in the US, the 8th all-time best-performing top female artist in the US & the 6th all-time best-performing female soloist in Billboard 200 history. In 2003, she was honored by the IFPI for selling over 50 million albums in Europe.

She was named after Hugues Aufray's song Céline.

She was bullied at school & called Vampire, owing to her teeth & skinny frame.

Celine & Rene married in 1994. In 2000, they renewed their wedding vows.

After Rene's diagnosis with cancer she took a break from the bussines in 2000.

She has 3 sons. Dion suffered a miscarriage in 2009.

On 14 Jan 2016, Rene died of cancer. 2 days later Dion's brother, Daniel, died aged 59, also of cancer.

Dion claimed to be a mezzo-soprano.
