If you are visiting in the area and want to learn more about the Wild West, This, is the place to go. Not only will you see Buffalo Bills' Grave, you can also see the actual rifles that he used in shows! The museum has a many items, associated with this legendary man.
You will come up Lookout Mt. by way of the CDOT Lariat Loop (link below), wich, in itself is historical. While Golden is not far from Denver, you will have a true mountain experience driving up the winding road. See Mule deer from your car, and hear lots of birdsongs. My favorite place for enjoying birds is in Lookout Mt park. It has pic-nic tables, grills and outhouses. Perfect for a family day. This whole area offers beautiful views of the East Valley and the Rocky Mountains. Fully capable to accomodate people with disabilities, and seniors. Bring the kids when you visit, the park has lots of room to go exploring and is perfectly suited for family fun.
Jefferson County Open Space shares ownership of Lookout Mt. (links below) Enjoy the hiking trails and the fabulous Nature Center (Go to RangeTrackers' Event Calendar for their activities). In Summer you'll find many wildflowers and butterflies.
While some of our Canyons were badly marred by the recent fires, we are greatful that this historic landmark was preserved.
