Welcome back to Japan Travel December 2025 series, Journey Across Kyushu and Yakushima Episode 2!
If you missed the start of the journey, definitely go back and check out Episode 1 first so you’re all caught up!
In Episode 1, I shared my journey from Frankfurt, Germany to Fukuoka. This time, in Episode 2, I'll take you on a road trip from Fukuoka to Yufuin, a famous hot spring town in Oita Prefecture. I'll show you my travels through the peaceful, nature-rich town of Yufuin, introduce delicious local cuisine, and give you an Airbnb room tour.

This vlog offers useful insights for those planning to drive in Japan, showcasing actual driving conditions and roadscapes.
I'll also share a bit about the driving tendencies of the locals.
It also features Yufu-dake, Yufuin's iconic volcano. Nicknamed Bungo Fuji, this beautiful active volcano resembles a miniature Mount Fuji.
And when it comes to Oita Prefecture, its local chicken is certainly famous.
Amongst these, I experienced grilling the most delicious chicken – the Shamo breed, arguably the tastiest – myself over an irori hearth at a restaurant specialising in it.
Not only did I enjoy grilled Shamo, but I also savoured Shamo hotpot.
Beyond simply enjoying exquisite cuisine, the experience of grilling it myself over the irori and simmering it in the hotpot made for a truly wonderful dinner.

Furthermore, I'll introduce the Airbnb accommodation with hot springs where I stayed.
Remarkably, this place featured two hot spring / Onsen baths.
The best part about an Airbnb with hot springs is that all spaces are private; there's no need to share the baths with others.

A private Onsen is the ultimate luxury, isn't it? Please do watch this indulgent vlog right to the end, where I feasted on delicious shamo chicken and relaxed in a private hot spring!
