Come with us on a journey to discover some of the most beautiful Purim megillot (the scrolls of Esther) in the history of Jewish Italy.
Amedeo Spagnoletto presents the MEIS exhibition “Beautiful Esther. Purim, a timeless story” curated together with Olga Melasecchi and Marina Caffiero with the collaboration of Sharon Reichel. Anna Nizza-Caplan (Israel Museum, Jerusalem) discusses the key work of her upcoming exhibition—the Luna Ambron’s Esther scroll and decorated Blessings sheet, transcribed by the fourteen-year-old Luna in 1767. Abigail Rapoport (The Jewish Museum, New York) presents on “The Book of Esther in the Age of Rembrandt” a major exhibition hosted until 10 August at the Jewish Museum in New York examining how the heroic story of Queen Esther served as a popular source of inspiration for Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) and his contemporaries in 17th-century Netherlands.
