Product Spotlight: Crimson Trace's RAD Pistol Optics

Brownells Gun Tech™ Caleb Savant gives us a tour of CT's RAD sights. What makes these sights so RAD(ical)? Crimson Trace's Rapid Aiming Dot, of course! RAD sights come in two sizes: the Standard model fits the Docter / Burris Fastfire mount footprint, and the Micro fits Shield RMS / JPoint mounts. The all-aluminum housings of both RAD models are extremely robust, but that strength doesn't come at the expense of obscuring the viewing window with a lot of metal. You can access the Standard model's battery from the top, making battery changes are easy and fast. Due to its small size, the Micro's battery compartment is on the bottom, so you have to dismount the sight from the gun to swap batteries.

There are NO buttons to turn the Micro RAD on and off. Moving the gun trips a motion-sensitive switch that fires up the reticle. The dot's brightness automatically adjusts to the ambient light, and it's on until you put the rubber cover over the sight. That's about as fast and intuitive as any red dot sight can be, making the Micro perfect for a daily carry / self-defense pistol. Also motion-activated, the Standard model does have buttons to manually adjust the dot's brightness AND turn it off.

Bonus: the Micro model has a notch that works as an "iron" rear sight, in the unlikely event that the electronics fail and you lose the dot. By the way, you can get your RAD sight with a RED or GREEN reticle.
