Companies with large #marketing budgets spend large sums of money on producing #commercials, but sometimes it actually hinders the ability to actually get the message across. #DrSquatch Soap Company promoted a YouTube video which could have cost next to nothing to produce. Their objective was to convince people that their bars of soap are all natural and smell all the same.
I compared Dr Squatch to Chevy because there is a different level of skepticism when it comes to their commercials presenting "non actors". Chevy commercials look fictional and staged. • 12 Ways To Expose A Chevy Commercial | Com... This Dr Squatch video looks legitimate. They were outside promoting their product on the street at an event and they captured the opportunity to promote the business.
Now, the street test that they conducted was a bit unfair. Although Dr Squatch used competing bar soaps, the competing bar soaps may not have been direct competitors. One of the basics in marketing is STP. It is an acronym for segmentation, target, and position. In the video I mention that the market positions are different. A market position refers to how consumers perceive a certain brand or product. In this case, we have a good smelling bar of soap competing with a low cost bar of soap (likely). I would say the test was more to prove whether the respondents had a good sense of smell.
I also want to add as a disclaimer that since I do not have a personal experience with the Dr Squatch soap, so please do not let me deter you. I only made the statement inferring that the primary use for soap is to cleanse. It is up to you as a consumer to do your due diligence and determine what is best for you. That is why there are so many variations of products and services. It is very difficult to successfully market to everyone.
I mentioned babuun marketing. It's a term that Resolution Marketing LLC coined to describe scare tactics. Baboon marketing might already be taken so we had to switch up the letters :).
