Synopsis- Matangini Hazra - Gandhi Budhi”
The play “Matangini Hazra - Gandhi Budhi”, an immortal Saga, illustrates the story of Matangini Hazra, an Indian revolutionary and humanitarian. Born to a poor household at Hogla village in West Bengal, she was married early to a 60-year-old widower Trilochon Hazra, only to be a widow at 18. She was fondly addressed as ‘Gandhi Budhi’ as she was an ardent Gandhi follower and actively participated in freedom struggle. In 1942 at the age of 73 she was shot by British police in one arm then another but kept moving forward with the flag held high. The next bullet hit her forehead taking her life.
